It all started with a vision and some fabric in the hands of Gilbert Baker, a visionary artist, and activist, back in '78. In the midst of a burgeoning fight for LGBTQ rights, Baker gave a community its symbol of hope. Picture it: the first unfurling of the rainbow flag in the San Francisco breeze, a moment that's since been etched into the annals of history.
Baker's rainbow wasn't just pretty colors; each of the original eight stripes was a celebration of different facets of queer life—from hot pink representing sexuality to violet for spirit. It's a palette that painted a picture of the diversity within the LGBTQ community.
Like any good story, the flag's tale is filled with twists and turns. Economic and practical reasons saw the flag change to its current six stripes, but the spirit remained untouched. This month, the Zone in Erie has several events planned. We've done flyers and web graphics for their annual O'Zone St. Patrick's Day Weekend, including a fun drag show featuring a roast of one of the house Queens. We also lost a friend this month and are planning a fund-raiser for his family.

NWPA Pride Alliance is unable to hold their annual Pride events this year because of COVID-19. As the winner of their t-shirt design contest for the last 3 years, they asked me if I was willing to partner with them this year to create a design that we could sell exclusively online. I was of course thrilled to help!
The design selected includes two bands of assorted LGBTQIA+ Pride Flags circling a digital representation of the world. Now more than ever we need to come together while staying apart. A portion of all sales of this design on any of the MANY products being offered goes to NWPA Pride Alliance, Inc. in north western Pennsylvania.
